||
Each regional fair winner who registers to participate at the 2007 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) held May 13-19, 2007, in Albuquerque, New Mexico are asked to submit a question for the Excellence in Science and Technology Panel. Sohini Sircar, Metro Richmond Science Fair's Grand Prize Winner, was notified on May 7 that her question had been selected as one of 36 from among over 1,200 submitted for consideration. She was invited to attend lunch with the panelists prior to the public panel on Tuesday, May 15, at the Intel ISEF. According to Jeanette Miller, Inquiry Facilitator, Nobel Prize Winners invited include Dr. Jocelyn Bell Burnell, Dr. Robert F. Curl, Dr. Dudley Herschback, Dr. Leon M. Lederman, Dr. Horst L. Stormer, and Dr. Kurt Wuthrich. After lunch with the panelists, Ms. Sircar was seated in a special section with the other 36 students. They had a chance to ask a question to the panel to be held from 2PM - 4PM. The ISEF Committee does not know in what order the questions will be asked or how many questions will be covered by the panel discussion; students will be called to the podium by name. The moderator is National Public Radio Science Correspondent Joe Palca. Congratulations on this fine honor were sent by Elizabeth Marincola, President Science Service, and Publisher Science News. |
